Poem: Love is Not

Love is not a frivolous emotion,

evoked by a Valentine’s Day gift.

Instead, love is forgiveness,

between two people, after a rift.

Love is not parading your spouse around,

like some trophy or grand prize.

Instead, it is being proud of your other,

regardless of their look’s or body size.

Love is not based on outward beauty

or because of physical attraction.

Instead, it is the words spoken to each other,

in response to a negative action.

Love is not a passing feeling,

here today and gone tomorrow.

Instead, it is a long-term response,

through times of both joy and sorrow.

Love is not exerting control,

over another person’s life.

Instead, it’s freedom not slavery,

for our husband or wife.

Love is not always easy,

during times of hardship and stressing.

Instead, it is our dedication to each other,

that makes love a priceless blessing.
