Happy Birthday Baby
By David Andre Davison
They say we come into the world alone,
but of course that isn’t true.
Our mother is present at the event,
and a doctor, midwife, or nurse too.
In some cases our father is there,
to witness the blessed event.
I think it is to reassure mama,
after all of her energy has been spent.
Personally, I fail to see the big deal,
for the arrival of a little being.
With a funny face, wrinkled skin,
and a hard time seeing.
Can you imagine the shock to us,
if we were thrown on a stage?
With spotlight shining on in our face,
when were locked in an incubator cage.
Then there are all of the these strangers,
with masks on their face.
Running to and fro around the room,
like they were in some kind of race.
I am amazed that babies are so calm,
as they try to adjust to all of us.
While people all around them,
are making such a fuss.
Out in the waiting room are others,
maybe our family and friends.
Pacing back and forth on the floor,
or sitting calmly on their rear ends.
When they hear the news of the birth,
little doubt they will spring to life.
They begin to text on social media,
leaving out no one’s husband or wife.
Soon there will be pictures on websites,
including selfies and more.
The days of any privacy are long gone,
modesty is cast out the door.
The newborn child will be the news,
to those who deeply care.
But the news a nuisance to others,
bragging overload, so beware.
All in all, it is a great event,
everyone is celebrating this special day.
While a little infant nestles in the covers,
having nothing important to say.
It will be some time before,
they can speak on their own.
But those days will be short-lived,
before they talk constantly on their cell phone.
So enjoy the day of your birth,
you really have no choice.
You can’t protest this event,
without a speaking voice.
