My Battle

by David Andre Davison

Call out the military,

and send up the jets,

Dispatch the tank corps,

and reactivate the Vets!

Alert the Navy SEALS,

and Delta Force too.

Put the Recon Marines on standby,

send the Coast Guard to the deep blue.

Ready the Strategic bombers,

prepare them for launch.

I need all available firepower,

our troops must be staunch.

The enemy is resistant,

its strength is unmatched.

I believe this is a conspiracy,

their plan must be unhatched.

How dare someone oppose,

the most powerful man on earth.

I have a strong will,

and a large girth.

Sitting in the oval office,

my red phone within reach.

Fighting with the enemy,

I have a lesson to teach.

My opponent is strong,

it is resistant to change.

I can’t seem to overcome it,

the solution is out of range.

My wife enters the room,

her face appears stern.

She walks over to my desk,

and says I have a lesson to learn.

She removes the jar from my hands,

and taps it once against my chair.

Her hands twist open the lid,

Hey, this doesn’t seem fair.

But the strength of a woman,

can’t be measured with military might.

For her wisdom knows how to overcome,

even my trivial peanut butter plight.
