By David Andre Davison

*

We speak of world peace in our beauty pageants,

on the news or in the press.

What this really means to each of us,

is only speculation; a guess.

*

Is peace merely the cessation of hostility,

between warring nations?

Or is it co-existing in tranquility,

without violent aspirations?

*

Is there still racial oppression and strife,

in our own neighborhood and city?

Or can we discover brotherly love,

not motivated by guilt or pity?

*

Is peace the victor,

when our heart controls our actions?

Or are we taken in by peer pressure,

from special interest factions?

*

Yes, a change of attitude is required,

before we modify our behavior.

Kindness, love, and mutual admiration,

need to become our secular savior.

*

So when someone speaks of world peace,

are they talking about utopia?

Or is that a pipe dream,

an artificial love feast cornucopia.
