Poem: Liberty Lost

Liberty Lost

By David Andre Davison

Remove the constraints of bias media, who determine the news we hear.

Be it by air wave, internet, or in news print, they prey upon our deepest fear.

*

Manipulation and control of the masses, is the key to their motivation.

Their deepest desire is to shape public opinion, across our entire nation.

*

What can we do to seek truth, how can we separate conspiracy from fact.

If the press is controlled by a narrow power base, how best to act?

*

Politicians smear each other, with deceit, half-truths, and lies.

They appear honest to us, hiding behind their best disguise.

*

We used to rely on the morals of the pulpit, with sermons from scripture.

However, in modern times, the words of the minister are based on secular literature.

*

Will our teachers and professors, instruct us on the true course of events?

Or will they decide to conform, selling their academic soul for mere cents?

*

How about our mom and dad, the ones who bounced us on their knee?

Will they retain their independent streak, or bow to what their told on TV.

*

Is our only hope the words of past minds, found on the library shelf?

Or has the internet destroyed this Bastille of knowledge, research it for yourself.

*

I am afraid that society has turned against the individual, in favor of the rich.

The plan was carefully laid years ago, and has been carried out without a hitch.

*

Our only hope is to stand up, and speak out against this suppression of rights.

If we don’t our freedoms will be extinguished, like the blackout of city lights.
